Autotracking - keep track of the biggest object

Autotracking means that the PTZ camera can be activated to follow the largest object in the image. This means that cars, people, etc. can be monitored dynamically. By having the camera follow the object, you can get a complete picture of the sequence of events without actively controlling the camera. This feature is suitable for environments with little movement where individual people or cars are easily recognisable.

When should I use Autotracking?

Autotracking is a smart feature that facilitates camera surveillance in areas with limited moving objects. It relieves the surveillance and automates a large part of the manual work as the camera itself follows and records what is happening. In environments where there is a lot of movement, the function is less suitable as the camera's ability to follow the right object is limited. In such cases, it is better to have manual control and then use a joystick.

How does Autotracking work?

Autotracking has some similarities with intelligent camera surveillance in that embedded software constantly analyses the image and decides whether and which object in the image should be followed. An object can be, for example, a person, an animal or a vehicle. The algorithm controlling the function is focused on detecting objects in the image and then controlling the PTZ camera to follow that object. If several objects in the image are moving at the same time, the largest one will be followed by the camera as it is deemed to have the greatest value.
